The challenge
In luxury fashion, looking expensive is the entry fee. Niya Madi had the product and the ambition, but not yet the identity that would let it sit beside the established names.
The founder’s vision was specific: clothing for the modern professional woman who wants sophistication, versatility and a thread of African heritage in what she wears. That is a precise customer, and a precise customer needs a precise brand — not a generic “luxury” treatment that could belong to anyone.
They also needed somewhere to actually sell. A beautiful identity with no store behind it is a mood board with a bank account attached.
What we did
- Started with the founder’s vision and the customer, not the logoBrand strategy first: who she is, what she is choosing between, and what the label has to signal in the two seconds before she decides. Everything after this was designed backwards from that.
- Built a luxury identity that is restrained on purposeA monogram mark, a sophisticated palette and a typography system chosen to carry elegance and strength at once. Restraint is what separates luxury from loud — and it is harder to draw.
- Built the store in the same room as the brandA functional eCommerce storefront designed to support scale, not a template wearing the new colours. Because the same team did both, the identity did not get diluted on the way to the product page.
The identity
The store
The outcome
Niya Madi came away with the two things a fashion label needs to compete at this level: an identity that holds its own next to established houses, and a storefront — live at niyamadi.com — that can take the orders when it does. We have not put trading figures on this page — those belong to the client, and an invented number would undo exactly the credibility the project was built to create.
